A Winning Sporting Season

There are many reasons why the Larnaka region is a ‘winning’ destination, one of them being the ‘winning’ sporting events that it holds – on a local, national and international level, and this continues to go from strength to strength.

Sports held in autumn so far have been a resounding success, including the Cyprus to Israel Regatta, which took place at the beginning of October and saw sailors compete to sail the waters of the East Mediterranean Sea between Larnaka and Tel Aviv, Israel.

Larnaka also had the honour of hosting the start and finish of the Cyprus Rally for the first time at the end of September, with racers leaving from the Finikoudes promenade amidst much fanfare and celebration, which they also found upon their return for the completion of the rally.

The 11th International Swimming Marathon (Open Seas) took place at the beginning of October, and despite the favourable temperatures of the waters, the event was a gruelling test of endurance for the 140 swimmers from 15 countries who set off from the Medieval Fort and swam races of 2.5, 5, and 10 kilometres.

And coming up in November, Larnaka will also host a major Muay Thai tournament in the suburb of Aradippou. The European Muay Championships 2015 will take place from November 21-29 in an exciting event of combat, and will welcome athletes from all over Europe.
