Celebrating Larnaka’s Famous Shipwreck
Larnaka will be celebrating its most famous shipwreck - the Zenobia - this June with a programme of events in honour of the Swedish roll-on-roll-off ferry.
Organised by the Larnaka Tourism Board, Larnaka Municipality and Larnaca Napa Sea Cruises, the programme will take place from June 23-30, and will showcase the wreck - which ranks as one of the top 10 in the world – as well as its underwater wealth.
The programme will include a mixture of sporting/leisure activities, informative and cultural events, and contests. The cultural events consist of a photographic competition (with prizes), an exhibition of original items from the Zenobia, and photography and art exhibitions entitled ‘Larnaka’s Underwater World’. The sporting/leisure activities will consist of a free dive contest, cruises to the Zenobia and dive courses and sessions. On the informative front, there will be a seminar on diving and the marine environment, a sea cleaning and environmental awareness campaign, and live link images from the Zenobia for non-divers who have not seen the wreck up close and personal!
The programme is free to observe or participate in – with the exception of diving courses and sessions - which will be offered at special rates for the duration of the programme.
