Larnaka Festival Recognised in Europe
The popular, annual ‘Larnaka Summer Festival’ is an eagerly anticipated cultural event for the region and attracts premium performers from the world stage of music, dance, theatre and other performing arts, with this year’s festival taking place from July 3–31. And now with its inclusion on a European list of the best festivals, it has been officially recognised as a quality event beyond the island too!
The coveted new EFFE label 2015-2016 – which stands for ‘Europe Festivals, Festivals for Europe’ – aims to offer 'a guide for citizens and the platform for professionals to discover and get involved in Europe's festivals”. Almost 900 festivals from across Europe applied, including 21 from Cyprus, with a final of 11 from the island selected, including the Larnaka Summer Festival.
Organised by Larnaka Municipality, and held annually throughout July since 1985, the various performances take place at the Pattichion Municipal Amphitheatre, the garden theatre of the medieval fort, the pier of the marina, the Kamares aqueduct and other historical places/cultural venues of Larnaca.
This year’s programme includes the ‘Celtic Legends Irish Dance Live’, directly from Ireland, who combine traditional music and dance with flair and passion. ‘The Tenors of the XXI’ are 10 tenors from Russia, who perform collectively around the world, as well as having successful solo careers, and are also a highly anticipated performance.
