Looking Ahead to a Season of Sports

When it comes to athletics, Larnaka is certainly a ‘winning’ destination that receives much praise for the world-class events it hosts, and 2015 is no exception as we look ahead to a super season of sport!

Most imminently are two events that both start on April 24; the ISSF World Cup Shotgun (April 24-May 4), and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Seniors Tennis Tournament (April 24 – May 2). The first will see more than 80 countries participating at the Larnaka Olympic Shooting Range in the village of Klavdia, whilst the latter is an annual event held by the Larnaka Tennis Club, and will feature 12 countries and 130 athletes.

On May 25, the Larnaka Triathlon- Nireas will take place along the Foinikoudes promenade with a 1500m swim, 40Km bike ride and a 10Km run. Just a few days later, the first of three ITF International Beach Tennis Tournaments (organised by the Larnaka Beach Tennis Club) will take place from May 30-31, the second taking place on June 27-28 - both at CTO Pyla Beach, and the third on July 31 - August 2 at Foinikoudes.

On June 16-21, Larnaka will host the 10th European Universities Beach Volleyball with over 100 participants, followed by the International Muay Thai Championships on June 27 – a martial arts event that Cyprus will host for the first time this year!

From 18-19 July, the International Sambo Tournament (another martial art discipline) will take place, and in August, the third King of Kite will once again feature a big-name world champion as guest judge.
