Enjoy an Authentic Larnaka Easter
Greek Orthodox Easter Sunday falls on April 12 this year – a week after Western Easter - so if you are visiting Larnaka during the fortnight of both, you will get to enjoy double the celebrations!
With such a special feel in the air and a host of interesting customs, it is a lovely time of year to be visiting the region, even if you do not celebrate Easter. After all, no one can resist the delicious, freshly baked goods such as ‘tsoureki’ (a sweet bread, similar to brioche) and ‘flaounes’ (cheese and mint scones), which are readily available during this period.
During the week, there are a number of unique church services, locals enjoy a traditional family meal of young lamb on Sunday, and on Easter Monday (April 13), it is customary to play traditional games.
The villages of the Larnaka region will hold game events, which are free for all to participate in. In Athienou, there will be traditional dances and games at the Konstantineio Municipal Park. In Kiti, the programme of games, songs and dance will begin at 3.30pm at the park of Angeloktisti church. In Voroklini, there will be traditional dancing and complimentary snacks from 4.30pm at the church square of Archangel Michael, and Lefkara will also hold its annual games.
Happy Easter - Kalo Pascha!
