On a Roll!
Scandinavian winter tourists are enjoying a little piece of home with the twist of a Larnaka coastal setting, thanks to the creation of a new Boules (Pétanque) court on the picturesque Foinikoudes strip.
As Larnaka tends to be a favourite winter destination for Scandinavian visitors, with many choosing to holiday in the region long-term, the LTB and the Larnaka Municipality listened carefully to requests and feedback from its regular visitors. Missing the popular pastime of playing Boules whilst abroad was one of the top comments, which promoted the creation of a court, and so far, feedback has been excellent!
Despite its new status, the court has been in use almost every day since its creation, and many players have praised Larnaka for responding to its visitors' needs and taking its guests’ interests into consideration.
Chairman of the Larnaka Tourism Board - Mr Dinos Lefkaritis - said of the new court: “We give our thanks to the Municipality for this initiative that will add to the winter activities available in Larnaka, and forms part of our larger plan for enriching the Larnaka experience.”
Pétanque is a form of Boules that is particularly popular in Scandinavian countries and France. The game is played by throwing hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball from within a starting circle. The court is free-of-charge to use with players providing their own equipment.
