The Races of Autumn Seas
Larnaka’s favourable sea temperatures are always popular for water-based sports, and autumn sees the return of two major annual events that make good use of the Mediterranean’s allure - the International Swimming Marathon, and the Cyprus Israel Regatta.
The 12th Cyprus International Swimming Marathon and Mediterranean Open Water Swimming Cup (COMEN) takes place on October 8 & 9 and is organised by the Cyprus Swimming Federation with the support of Larnaka Municipality.
Swimmers from all over the world test their endurance and open sea skills in the waters in front of the Medieval Fort on Foinikoudes promenade, with the event conducted in accordance to FINA and LEN Open Water Swimming Rules and Regulations. The distances are: 2.5km; 5km and 10km with categories for men, women, individuals, teams and children (14+).
The Cyprus Israel Regatta 2016 takes place on October 13 – 22 and is a prestigious sailing event that sees participants cross the waters of the East Mediterranean Sea from Larnaca to Tel Aviv. The Regatta begins with a ‘Friendship Flotilla’ from Tel Aviv Marina to Limassol Marina, followed by two coastal races in Cyprus, and the major offshore race from Larnaka to Tel Aviv, culminating in the awarding of prizes. ORC handicap system is used for the race.
