Spring Sporting Gold

Spring in Larnaka is synonymous with sport, as the weather conditions are perfect for a whole range of different activities and tournaments.

Coming up this season is the ISFF World Shotgun Championship, which is organised by the Cyprus Shooting Federation and will once again welcome international participants to the Larnaka Olympic Shooting Range in Klavdia village on April 28 – May 08. The shooting range has carved a reputation for its excellent facilities, which can host all Olympic shooting disciplines, and is also a popular venue for training.

The Cyprus Sunshine Cup - which took place in early March - was also hailed a great success, with mountain bikers of all levels from 25 different nations praising the conditions for cycling. One rider from the UK who took part for the first time commented: “These four days were the best I have ever experienced on a mountain bike; every mountain biker should have come here and have a go", whilst another also commented: “The scenery and the trails are great… the temperatures are optimal.”

Also at the start of spring, the Cyprus Women’s World Cup took place, with a portion of the football matches played in Larnaka. Wales’ Women's manager, Jayne Ludlow, said of the tournament: “The Cyprus Cup gives us a great opportunity to challenge ourselves against varying levels of international teams.”

And when spring starts to give way to summer, there will be more fantastic sporting events to look forward to, including the CEV Beach Volleyball Qualifications for the Youth Olympics – European Youth Games (August 03-06, Foinikoudes beachfront); the CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite Larnaka (August 04-07, Foinikoudes beachfront), and the summer ITF Beach Tennis on Foinikoudes beachfront.
