The Beauty of Boats on Dry Land!
It’s ‘land ahoy’ with some innovative new décor in Larnaka’s coastal areas, thanks to the introduction of giving old boats a new lease of life!
Following an initiative by the Larnaka Tourism Board to petition the Ministry of Agriculture to provide old, decommissioned fishing vessels for aesthetic use - rather than scrapping them, various points in Larnaka now have pretty, traditional boats as part of their landscaping.
More specifically, these boats have been spruced up and dotted along Voroklini’s pedestrian walkway, the Faros (lighthouse) area of Pervolia, Livadia’s roundabout, and soon in front of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) beach in Pyla.
The boats serve as alternative ‘sculptures’, and are brightly painted in traditional fishing boat colours. Aside from being attractive focal points, they ensure that a part of Cyprus' nautical history is preserved, as well as promoted.
