Larnaka Sands Welcome Beach Volley Tournament

Larnaka’s beautiful Finikoudes sands will once again welcome crowds from all over the world when the town hosts the FIVB U21 Beach Volleyball Swatch Youth World Championships this July.

The town’s reputation for holding international sporting events is rising fast, and already this year Larnaka has co-hosted the Cyprus Sunshine Cup (cycling) and the Cyprus Women’s Cup (football), but the volleyball tournament is set to be its biggest to date.

Organized by the Municipality of Larnaka and the Cyprus Volleyball Federation, the tournament takes place between July 22-27, and will host a total of 128 athletes from 61 countries (split into 32 teams per gender), who will take part in over 200 games!

This is the second time that Larnaka will take centre-stage for volleyball, with the first tournament held on its sands in 2012, when a men’s tandem from Poland and a women’s duo from Lithuania won the FIVB U19 World Championships.

The Finikoudes promenade offers the perfect backdrop for such events as spectators and athletes will be able to enjoy the picturesque setting, and have the convenience of the promenade’s cafes and restaurants at their fingertips, as well as the town centre, which runs parallel to the promenade. And not forgetting the hot weather too…
