Expanding Hotel Options
An exciting new landscape of hotels is set to grace the region in 2023 as accommodation options continue to expand, from niche boutique establishments to globally branded resorts.
The end of 2022 saw the opening of the Radisson Beach Resort Larnaca on Voroklini’s coastline (Larnaka-Dekeleia Road). The swish luxury resort is set on an exclusive beach complete with spa and welcomed the Manchester United football team among its first guests during their visit to Cyprus for a Europa League match.
Up in mountainous Lefkara village, Agora Hotel also opened at the end of the year, immersing guests in boutique surroundings that blend old-world glamour with the contemporary. The hotel is on the site of the village’s old market (‘agora’) and retains the original gate of the market.
Further openings are planned during 2023 and beyond, including global brands that have selected Larnaka for their first hotel in Cyprus.
Larnaka Municipality alone currently has 33 applications pending for accommodation that will boost its bed capacity by over 1000, including the repurposing of historic buildings that will help to preserve the city’s listed buildings and their immense cultural value.
The Mercure Beach Hotel Larnaca will be the island’s first Mercure hotel and is due to open for the start of the new tourist season. Set on an exclusive part of the beach along the Voroklini coastline (Larnaka-Dekeleia Road), the resort will also feature the closest beach rooms on the island, rooftop bar and a spa. The world-renowned Mercure brand is part of the portfolio of French hotel giant Accor Group. A second globally branded hotel is also planned for Voroklini coastline by Yiannades (Goldfish) Beach, with more details to be announced later in the year.
The Pyla part of Larnaka-Dekeleia Road is also set to benefit from two new Category A hotel-apartments at the former Stavros Hotel – which will become Larnaka’s second Best Western branded establishment, and the former Aris Hotel. Also in the works are the resurrection of the former Beau Rivage Hotel and two new high-star developments; the Troy Resort & Spa by Pyla Beach, and Floating Scapes – a project with hotel, hotel apartments and villas.
The island’s first Holiday Inn Express will open in Larnaka during 2023, doubling as the island’s first robotic hotel with digitalised services, such as automated check-in and check-out. The hotel will be situated along Makariou Avenue, which offers easy access to the Foinikoudes (Palm Tree) promenade and the parallel city centre.
The new Pallas Hotel - in the historic 1953 building of its eponymous square in the commercial centre - is readying to open its doors to travellers who enjoy a city setting, offering smart technology suites amongst its rooms, as well as a roof garden and sky bar. The hotel is a minute away from the Foinikoudes (Palm Tree promenade) as well as all the leisure and catering establishments of the area.
Also in the city centre, the Saint Lazaros Church area is earmarked for a new boutique hotel that will carry the patron saint’s name and overlook the landmark’s charming square.
