Authentic Experience: Traditional Olive Oil Tasting

If you are enjoying the delicious, local cuisine in Larnaka region, why not discover for yourself how local olive oil is made at a tasting tour!
Two of Larnaka region’s olive mills warmly welcome visitors to discover, taste and take home the region’s ‘liquid gold’.
Nestled in historic Choirokoitia is Ktima Erokritos; a family-run and fully-accessible olive mill that is open for tours all-year-round and also demonstrates the harvest process during October-February.
The mill has been open since 2000 and produces olives, olive paste and extra virgin olive oil, including flavoured oils.
Owner Mr Andreas Christoforou says that the family tradition is a passion: "For us, olives are not just a 'product'; they are a way of life, a connection to the land, and the taste of home. We want to share this natural treasure with our clients and guide visitors through the entire process at our state-of-the-art facilities, from tree to bottle".
No tour would be complete without a tasting, and Andreas says that visitors are often surprised at the versatility of olives, noting that aside from extra virgin olive oil, particular favourites that visitors can try are the Chalkidikis green olives stuffed with almonds and the extra virgin olive oil infused with garlic.
Tours are available from Monday-Saturday, and by appointment on Sundays. Find out more: FB / IG.
At Terra Oliva Bio Olive Farm, the ancient olive trees are a true part of Lefkara village’s history!
Run by the Sofokleous family since 2001, the estate is certified for its organic olive oil and welcomes visitors to discover the history of olive cultivation and production amidst the sprawling, green grounds with over 7000 olive trees, as well as fruit orchards.
Among the olive trees are ancient ones that are hundreds of years old, including one that is an impressive 1000 year's old, and as owner Mr Sofoklis Sofokleous explains, it has a certificate to prove it! “This particular olive tree is very special and is officially protected by the Cyprus government. Many visitors come to see this tree and to photograph it".
During the tour of the state-of-the-art premises, visitors watch the production line and enjoy tasting the olive oil and associated products, which Mr Sofokleous says includes some surprises. “Aside from the usual olive products and even olive wood creations, we also have a range of over 20 sweets made with olives, including olive preserves and chocolate - awarded for the unique concept".
