Larnaka Celebrates 'European Capital of Culture for 2030' Win

Larnaka is celebrating its official selection as European Capital of Culture for 2030 after a successful bid that encompasses both the city and the region.
The victory comes after a four-year process led by the Larnaka2030 organisation; a collaboration of stakeholders headquartered at Zouchouri Square, and created to elevate and enrich the arts and culture of the region.
The title was secured through a sustainable community-driven vision, as Artistic Director, Kelly Diapouli, explains: "This title belongs to the people of Larnaka. It is the result of years of collaboration, imagination and care for our city and our shared European future. More than 1600 people have been actively engaged in shaping a vision that sees Europe as a Common Ground of care, democracy and sustainability".
Under the umbrella of Larnaka2030 and its ‘common ground’ concept, a multitude of events have already been shaped and hosted, from workshops and open calls, to festivals and concerts, including CARE Festival, Herstories project, Mahallart, as well as the creation of a new Cultural Centre designed by the internationally acclaimed office Foster & Partners.
Kelly highlights that engaging local artists and citizens has been at the heart of the initiatives, and remains the goal: "Common Ground is not just a concept – it is an invitation to meet, collaborate and reimagine how culture connects communities across Europe".
The European Capital of Culture programme is an EU cultural scheme that started in 1985. Awarded cities organise a year-long cultural celebration and we can’t wait to see all the wonderful events and festivities that will be held, which are sure to delight both locals and visitors alike!
