Rizoelia: A Natural Gem in the City
One of the region’s best kept natural secrets is the Rizoelia National Forest Park, located at the start of Larnaka within the boundaries of Aradippou Municipality.
The forest park is a natural oasis that unfolds across 97 hectares of protected conservation area and is included within the European Natura 2000 network.
The amazing thing is that this natural treasure is tucked away off the dual carriageway – almost hidden in plain sight! It is easily accessible for all, transporting visitors away from the city to an ecological tapestry of protected flora and fauna, nestled within its trails and tree clusters.
Designed for the public to enjoy and appreciate nature, the park features multiple walking and cycling trails with elevations that offer views across the hillside or the city. The geological formations are studded with natural crystal that glints in the sunlight and various moss varieties.
Visitors can choose to park in the foothills and walk or cycle onwards, or for those who want to access the leisure areas without walking, there is also a parking area for the picnic area at the top of the park. A cafeteria with outdoor seating overlooks panoramic views and the picnic area offers wooden, covered benches, flanked by a children’s play/sport’s area and public toilets.
Across the forest park there are various benches for pit-stops with a view, as well as observation pavilions, and not forgetting the new Instagrammable photo spot (a pair of wings) that was installed in 2023 and sponsored by LTB!
