A Season of Marathons
Dust your trainers off and get running in Larnaka this autumn as two major marathons take place in the mountains and the city with the Lefkara Country Run & Vertical Challenge and the Radisson Blu Larnaka international Marathon.
Lefkara Country Run & Vertical Challenge – October 29, 2022
The 2nd Lefkara Country Run & Vertical Challenge is a unique experience that challenges runners with a course that includes dirt road, asphalt and positive altitude, but the reward of panoramic hillside views from the top of Lefkara is worth the slog!
Split into two routes, the first is 23.3 km; 75% dirt road and 25% asphalt with 800m positive altitude difference, and the second is 13.3 km; 55% dirt road and 45% asphalt with 435m positive altitude difference.
Pretty Lefkara is situated at the foot of the Troodos Mountains, 650 metres above sea level, and won the UNWTO ‘Best Tourism Villages’ title in 2021.
Radisson Blu Larnaka International Marathon – November 20, 2022
The Radisson Blu Larnaka international Marathon is the island’s biggest running event and an eagerly-awaited annual fixture for runners from around the world. Starting at the Foinikoudes (Palm Tree) Promenade of Larnaka city, the sporting event incorporates a Marathon, Half Marathon race, 10km race, 5km Road race, 5km Corporate race, McDonald’s™ Kids Race 1km and Fun Race 1km for adults, complete with electronic timing and support stations along the way.
The marathon draws in large numbers of spectators, who line the promenade.
Aside from the marathons, Larnaka region is popular for runners of all levels thanks to interesting and scenic routes, varied terrain of flat coastal courses to rugged hill trails, and the favourable weather conditions for most of the year.
