2025: A Year of Accessible Actions in Larnaka Region

Actions towards better accessibility in Larnaka region continued in 2025 with several projects completed, and more to follow in the New Year.
Larnaka Tourism Board in cooperation with Ablebook app for accessibility in Cyprus prepared a study for tourism accessibility in Larnaka that includes a proposal for an accessible sightseeing route along Foinikoudes (Palm Tree) Promenade. Attractions and activities that are suitable for persons with a disability, as well as barriers and areas that could be adapted or improved have been identified, with the aim of taking further actions in 2026.
Part of the study's suggestions for more accessible attractions have already started to be implemented, including the creation of disabled parking and accessible view-point at the Kamares Aqueduct (archaeological attraction).
The project by Larnaka Tourism Board and Larnaka Municipality is located at the elevation of the structure with a special bench for wheelchairs that overlooks the magnificent arches.
The Craft of Caning Museum, Livadia is also undergoing accessibility upgrades. So far, new signage and QR codes for information about the exhibits for persons with a sensory disability (in Greek at present) have been installed.
In September, a modern, solar-powered mechanism that allows autonomous access to the sea for people with mobility difficulties was installed at Kastella blue Flag Beach, with a wooden walkway to the device.
As with all disabled facilities at organised beaches (floating wheelchairs and designated sunbeds for disabled persons in the front row), the device can be found by the lifeguard towers.
Major works to make Larnaka’s historic commercial centre accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs forges on, with the first completed part of Ermou Street delivered at the end of November 2025, in time for the festive season.
