Kato Drys

Kato Drys is a small agrotouristic village that is part of the Rural Larnaka Honey Villages and an EDEN village, alongside its neighbouring villages in the hillside areas of Larnaka (known as ‘Orini’).
Kato Drys means ‘lower oak’ in Greek, and the village has existed since the Byzantine period – referred to as the birthplace of Agios Neofytos the Recluse – while the name ‘Catodi’ also appears on old maps.
Its agricultural produce includes grapes, citrus fruit, almonds, olive and carobs, amongst other crops, whilst the famous Lefkara lace handicraft is also practiced in the village, which neighbours the Lefkara area.
The village is included in one the island’s wine routes, encompassing the area of mountainous Larnaka – Lefkosia (Nicosia) and in the 'Wine & Gastronomy' Larnaka Thematic Cycling Route. The Ktima Christoudia boutique winery is nestled amidst its natural beauty and offers wine tasting tours.
It has two interesting museums; the Local Rural Museum and the Bee and Embroidery Museum (both also available as part of the Larnaka Virtual Museums), and two significant churches; Panagia Eleousa (which dates back to the 15th century), and Agios Charalambos (which dates back to the early 19th century).
