Celebrating the Kataklysmos Festival
It’s over 100 years old, yet the famous ‘Kataklysmos’ event (Festival of the Flood) continues to grow each year!
Taking place along the bustling Foinikoudes (Palm Tree) Promenade from June 21-26 (50 days after Greek Orthodox Easter), the UNESCO-listed festival is Larnaka city’s largest, most extravagant annual celebration, and is held to mark Pentacost, as well as having ancient roots.
This year’s programme promises to ‘wow’ with well-known entertainers gracing the Seafront and Europe Square stages, whilst the promenade is lined with stalls heaving with traditional street food (be sure to try 'Loukoumades' honey donuts!) and an eclectic array of other goods; fairground rides, carnival games, and demonstrations of folkloric handicrafts. And not forgetting one of the highlights - the unique tradition of comedic, poetic dueling known as 'Tsiattista'!
