Completed Projects that Added to Village Charm
Larnaka’s authentic rural and mountainous villages are a popular part of the region’s charm, and maintaining their traditional character was at the core of LTB’s 2023 projects in support of these unique communities.
Agios Theodoros
Two sculptures were created for picturesque Agios Theodoros village, which combines mountain and coastal beauty. One of the sculptures offers a ‘window’ to the lush greenery of the village, whilst the second is metal with a flying bird design, offering views of the blue horizon.
Lefkara
Mountainous Lefkara’s old village fountain was restored using traditional stone. The renovation complements the rustic character of this award-winning hillside community that is famous for its cobbled lanes and stone architecture.
Tochni
Pretty, rural Tochni is one of the region’s most popular spots for cycling. To reflect this defining characteristic, five cycle racks decorated with colourful bikes with flower planters were placed around the village.
Rural Larnaka Honey Villages
Three parks were transformed to new bee-themed parks in Melini, Odou and Ora villages; part of the cluster of eight Rural Larnaka Honey Villages that share a sweet beekeeping and honey production history. The parks have bright playground toys; themed urban furniture, and fun educational elements such as bee hotels and factsheets.
Region-wide Projects
The larger communities and municipalities of Larnaka region also benefited from LTB supported projects throughout 2023, including: three new Instagrammable Photo installations in Aradippou; the island’s largest coastal calisthenics park on Larnaka city’s Kastella Beach; the enrichment of the mosaic collection at Kallinikeio Municipal Musem of Athienou; beach upgrades and new facilities at Voroklini, Pyla and Livadia beaches (all Larnaka-Dekeleia Road strip), and palm tree planting at the Larnaka Kitesurfing Beach in the Kiti/Mazotos area.
