Innovative Actions for an Accessible Destination
The equal enjoyment of Larnaka region as a destination was at the heart of several projects in 2024 that have helped expand accessibility.
In an island-first, Larnaka Tourism Board teamed up with charitable organisation‘ ‘ena emeis’ and St. Barnabas School for the Blind in cooperation with four and five-star hotels in the region to create Braille menus with QR codes for blind persons and persons with visual disability.
The menus were rolled out in November and can be found at Golden Bay Beach Hotel, Sandy Beach Hotel & Spa, Lordos Beach Hotel and Spa, Radisson Blu Hotel, Larnaca, Robinson Cyprus, Sun Hall Hotel and E-Hotel Spa & Resort.
Also aimed at persons with a sensory disability is the introduction of a tactile station at Pierides Museum – Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, allowing visitors to use different senses to experience the island’s history. This action follows the cooperation between LTB and the museum for the award-winning ‘Guided Sensory Tour for the Blind’..
LTB also sponsored the adaptation of the videos at ‘The Craft of Caning Museum, Livadia’ that showcase the basketry tradition to include large caption subtitles and sign language interpretation for persons with visual and auditory disabilities, as well as a museum booklet in Braille.
These actions tie in with the tourism board’s cooperation with the groundbreaking Ablebook app, which visitors can download when on the the island to find out which establishments and attractions are suitable for persons with disability, along with a treasure trove of useful information and special offers. Find the invaluable app on the App Store and Google Play.
