Summer Outing: Historic Kalavasos

If you have driven the motorway connecting Larnaka and Lemesos, you will no doubt have noticed the tent structure in the distance, and perhaps wondered what it is! This is in fact one of the most ancient and significant archeological sites of Larnaka region; Kalavasos Tenta.
The Neolithic settlement is just one of Kalavasos village’s attractions, and as the newest member of Larnaka Tourism Board - and an EDEN village - the community has plenty to offer for a summer daytrip in rural Larnaka.
Architecture: Even a stroll around Kalavasos is a delight with its charming, stone-built, traditional houses that use stone quarried in nearby Tochni village.
Agrotourism: Kalavasos is a popular destination for travellers seeking a stay in authentic, rustic accommodation amidst nature. The Cyprus Agrotourism Company lists all the licensed accommodation in the village.
Cycling: As one of the most popular villages for cycling, visitors can let the quaint roads lead, or take a self-guided cycle tour following Route 1 - Neolithic Route of the Larnaka Thematic Cycle Routes. And if you don't have a bike, cycle hire is available at the village!
Arts & Crafts: Michalis Mozoras creates unique works of art with pebbles, which visitors can view at his gallery. At Gaia Olea Aromatherapy Centre you can enjoy experiential workshops, including tasting seasonal, herbal tea. And Kori Concept Store is a handmade treasure trove!
Churches: Kalavasos has several noteworthy churches, with the most significant being Panagia Titiotissa - built in the Byzantine architectural style and housing a beautiful carved wooden iconostasis with ancient icons.
Old Mines: Kalavasos' mines were once an important site for copper extraction on the island. Today, the remnants of several mines can be explored, whilst an old mine train remains at The Train Community Park; a green, family-friendly space.
